Material Engineer

You will be part of the R&D function that is a team of 15 engineers and technicians with global responsibility to provide technical support, develop technology and keep expert level of knowledge within the following core competences: Product construction, Project management, Electrical engineering, Polymer engineering, Analysis and test equipment.
About the role
As Material Engineer, you will work as a technical expert in polymer engineering. In this role, you will work with material performance in cables. You will be using both theoretical knowledge for material choice and properties, as well as practical tools in our labs. You will work in close cooperation with Product development to understand our customers’ needs and supply the best cable solution for their applications. The Material engineer will also give technical support to the global organization and supervise and train technical staff globally within polymer engineering and testing.
Responsibilities
- Perform and supervise polymer and cable testing/measurements and link the results to physical properties and theory.
- Evaluate properties of new polymer materials to develop new products or improve existing products.
- Provide technical expertise in engineering or development projects.
- Cooperate with Product development to construct cables that fulfill customers’ requirements.
- May plan and supervise a team for smaller projects.
- Communicate with Universities and Research Organizations, all departments within the company, Customers, Suppliers, External test facilities and consultants.
- May participate in and give presentations for client projects, technical workshops, participate in international standardization committees and conferences.
- Supervise and train technical staff globally within polymer engineering and testing.
- Provide technical support to the global organization and our customers.
About you
As a person we believe you have following skills to be successful in this role:
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal (Swedish and German are meritorious).
- Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization, and our customers.
- Ability to make strategic decisions in engineering work.
- Ability to analyze complex data sets and make conclusions and recommendations to meet specifications and functional requirements.
- Good teamwork and collaboration skills.
We expect that you have the following background:
- University diploma within Polymer engineering with BSc, MSc, or PhD degree (possibility to tailor the position for the applicant)
- Experience of working with polymers in industrial applications
- Experience within material testing and characterization
Location
Söderfors, Sweden (our factory) or Upplands-Väsby, Sweden (our head office) – with at least 1 day/week in Söderfors.
